Matt O’Riley Gets Scottish Football Writers’ Recognition | Latest Celtic News
Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley has endured a standout campaign so far. The Danish midfielder has notched 15 goals and 17 assists in all competitions, making several vital contributions.
The transfer interest he has gained from massive European clubs such as Atletico Madrid and Internazionale comes as no surprise given his performances up to this point in the season.
O’Riley is up for Celtic’s in-house Player of the Year award and while he was beaten to the PFA Player of the Year by Lawrence Shankland, this morning, he has been nominated for the Scottish Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year.
Shankland, Bojan Miovski, and Jack Butland are all up for the award alongside the 23-year-old.
The winner will be announced before the SFWA’s annual dinner on May 19th, the day after Celtic’s last league game of the season.
Although manager Brendan Rodgers wasn’t included in the writers’ nominees for Manager of the Year, they couldn’t leave out O’Riley for the player award.
He has been sensational in 2023/24, but there is still work to be done to ensure he and his team end the season successfully.
