Heavy snow & rain sparks travel chaos as roads closed & ScotRail trains axed

TRAVEL chaos is gripping parts of Scotland as Storm Kathleen snow moves in.

Heavy snow has blasted roads in the north while train services were axed due to rain.

Temperatures have plunged as the cold front moves in, leading to a chilly start to spring for Scots.

Transport chiefs issued a warning to drivers on the A9, A85 and A889 as the routes were blanketed by snowflakes.

Gritters were deployed to try and make the route safer, but motorists have been urged to take care.

BEAR NW Trunk roads posted to social media saying: “Snow affecting the A9 Slochd and Drumochter and the A85 Glen Ogle just now.

“We have gritters out treating routes and dealing with any snow but please drive safe and take care.”

Snow gates are also set to be closed amid difficult conditions between Braemar and Glenshee.

Network Rail also warned commuters a train line between Glasgow and Edinburgh has been thrown into chaos after heavy rain sparked flooding near Shotts.

Parts of the country were under yellow Met Office warnings for snow and ice this morning.

But forecasters have confirmed the weather misery is not over, with a new warning in place for tomorrow.

A yellow wind alert has been issued from 8am until 10pm on Saturday.

The Central Belt and southwest Scotland are under the new warning, with 50mph winds expected to hit.

Experts warned even more travel chaos will be sparked by the monstrous gusts.
